Wave & 3D Stretch Ceilings: Sculptural Ceiling Design
4 June 2026 · 5 min read

A wave or 3D stretch ceiling turns the ceiling into a flowing, sculptural feature — curved ridges, soft waves or geometric volumes that catch the light and give a space real character. It is one of the most striking things you can do overhead.
How wave and 3D ceilings are built
A custom frame is shaped to the design, and the stretch membrane is tensioned over it to follow the curves seamlessly. Because the membrane is flexible, it can wrap shapes that would be extremely difficult and expensive to achieve in gypsum.
Lighting the curves
Wave ceilings come alive with light. Backlighting through a translucent membrane makes the whole form glow, while concealed linear LEDs can trace each ridge — including full-colour (RGB) effects for retail, showrooms and entertainment spaces.
Where they work best
- Showrooms and retail — a dramatic, memorable feature above the product.
- Hospitality and entertainment — lobbies, lounges and restaurants.
- Feature areas in homes — entrances, living rooms and stairwells.
